Legend has it that long ago the demigod Maui climbed to the top of Haleakala Crater where he lassoed the sun and held it captive until it promised to slow down its passage over the Hawaiian Islands. Today, thanks to Maui, hiking to Haleakala’s summit for soul-stirring sunrises and sunsets is just one of the enchanting activities to enjoy on this “Magic Isle.”
Visitors enjoy staying at either the Kapalua and Ka‘anapali resort area on Maui’s western shore, or in Wailea further south. Facilities include fine restaurants, championship golf courses and a collection of hotels and condominiums. All with excellent views of Maui’s natural beauty.
